WhatsApp officially stated in their blog post that they are sharing data of users with Facebook.
And by connecting your phone number with Facebook‘s systems, Facebook can offer better friend suggestions and show you more relevant ads if you have an account with them.
WhatsApp clearly mentioned that they won’t share WhatsApp conversations or content of messages with anyone. Not everyone is going to trust, particularly when you consider Facebook’s new ball game.
Don’t forget Facebook bought WhatsApp for 19 billion dollars. Obviously they didn’t spend this money for a service that doesn’t even produce more than 1$ per individual per year.
What Does This Mean?
As of February 2016, WhatsApp had more than a billion active users, means one individual in every seven individuals on earth has WhatsApp account. It means Facebook will have access to major part of communication that we do through this acquisition and more information means more money.
The more alarming thing for some users is the fact that WhatsApp could also provide access to our communication to the governments world over, specially NSA.
Well its too early to say more on how shared data and information is going to impact our lives, according to the record we can anticipate that it is not going to be very beautiful.
