The day before yesterday we reported that WhatsApp will share user data with Facebook. This is an alarming situation for those who value their privacy.
Effect of WhatsApp-Facebook Data Sharing On Us:
Facebook will able to match us with our friends that we have exchanged phone numbers with but not added in our friends at Facebook yet. That was also done to give businesses the option to contact you directly. For example, banks can alert you if they found any fraudulent activity. Airlines can also notify you about your flight being delayed etc.
There is a drawback to this as you will receive advertisements on WhatsApp. Service had remained ads-free ever since it was introduced and launched that is the reason why people are using it. If it starts advertising on the app, it won’t be taken generously by the users.
Although to avoid this situation if you don’t want to do with these new and improved features. There are two ways to stop WhatsApp from sharing our information with Facebook described below.
How to Stop WhatsApp-Facebook Data Sharing:
If your WhatsApp is updated recently and when you turn it on next time, you will receive the updated TOS message:
Tap “Read” and scroll down to read the terms and conditions page.
Unchecked the check box that says “Share my WhatsApp account information with Facebook to improve my Facebook ads and products experiences”. It will let you withdraw of the WhatsApp-Facebook data sharing situation.
However it says chats and other info will not be shared with Facebook, its a matter of time before they again update their terms and conditions to openly do that too.
What if I Already Agreed to the New TOS?
If you already accepted the TOS earlier, this method is for you.
Tap three white dots on top right and head to settings. Tap on Account and uncheck “Share my account info”.
There is a limit to this, users who have accepted the TOS have the opportunity to the withdraw of the info sharing, but they can do so within 30 days of accepting the new TOS.
